"Living In Faith" Small Groups

Are you ready for a new way to worship, pray, and experience loving community? We invite you to join us for reverent, relevant, and real gatherings based on where you feel God is calling YOU. Each group is limited to 12 people with multiple sections of each small group available.  We will meet virtually so you can participate from anywhere. Groups are free of charge. Weekly sessions will include shared prayer, study, and shared actions for how we can live into our faith and engage with the community around us.

Each group has two trained facilitators and uses vetted resources and curriculum materials that support thoughtful and eye-opening ways to bring scripture into our hearts and our lives. Groups are forming now and will begin meeting August, September, and October.

Racial Justice small group

Participants will begin their shared journey by taking part in a 7-Day Challenge entitled Introduction to Power, Privilege, and Leadership intended to jumpstart individuals' learning and provide a common starting point for the group's time together. Then, using the digital series The Color of Compromise based on the book by the same title, authored by Jemar Tisby, the group will spend time engaging the video and print material. As the material is completed, the group will begin to determine a direction for taking action with the intent of moving the needle on racial justice, racial understanding, and racial reconciliation in our church and our community. To learn more about the The Color of Compromise video series, watch the extended trailer.

The Racial Justice small group will meet the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 7-8:30PM, beginning on August 10, 2020. Dr. Kris Albert will serve as the facilitator for this group. Sign Up

Creation Care

Hopefully you have heard the exciting news of Good Shepherd starting up our very own Creation Care team to support the ELCA's Caring for Creation: Vision, Hope, and JusticeI social statement. The ELCA social statement and our Creation Care team will be grounded in a biblical vision of God's intention for the healing and wholeness of creation. We will strive to fulfil our call and commitment to pursue wholeness and justice for creation through individual and community action, worship, learning, moral deliberation and advocacy.

You now have the opportunity to become directly engaged in this journey by signing up for the Creation Care small group. We will be meeting every other Monday beginning September 7th from 7-8:30 pm. Location details for the meetings will be determined after the small group has been formally established.

The theme for the first five sessions will focus on the Season of Creation 2020; a world-wide annual celebration centered around renewing, repairing and restoring our commitments to God, to one another and to all of creation.

Beginning Wednesday, October 7, 2020 we will host a 12:00 p.m. "LGBTQIA+ Lunch Bunch" from 12:00-1:00 p.m. every First and Third Wednesday of the month. This LGBTQIA+ oriented small group invites people who identify as LGBTQIA+ AND allies who would like to learn more about how to support and advocate for LGBTQIA+ individuals in the church and the world. We will explore the Bible, learn about modern vocabulary, explore services and resources, become familiar with the ELCA Lutheran organizations and social statements that support LGBTQIA+ people, and more.
